Besides a library, the Boekenberg also houses other inhabitants, did you know? In the Milieu House (Environmental House) you’ll find interesting exhibitions, at the Chess Association Spijkenisse your at the right address for some serious brain training and at the Antiquities Room Spijkenisse you’ll find out everything about the local history. It’s with great pleasure that library the Boekenberg works together with these partners, to offer visitors a dynamic and diverse program.
In April 2012, The Boekenberg opened its doors on the Marktplein in Spijkenisse, after ten years of planning, designing and building. Architect Winy Maas of Architectural Office MVRDV designed this building, which has a beautiful pointed glass roof. Direct underneath, you will find a mountain of books, ready to be climbed. Why did he pick this shape? And what do our visitors think of it? The iconic building is striking and controversial: it won several awards for good reason!
On only a twenty-minute drive from Rotterdam, you’ll find the Boekenberg, the mountain worth the climb. Rent out one of our inspiring rooms for a meeting, presentation, brainstorm session or business party. It’s an open space in the centre of the Boekenberg, which surrounds you in the world of books. Beware: Because of its location this room provides limited access to the disabled.
After only a small climb from the entrance of the Boekenberg, you will find Café Zinnig (meaning ‘Sensible’). Here you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee, fresh juices and delicious sandwiches. This is a great place for a conversation or to enjoy the peace and quiet with a cappuccino and a paper or magazine from our reading table. At times, activities are organized in the café. Are you interested? Come join us!
Café Zinnig only works with local produce. Tea room In Den Biesenschuur in Spijkenis-se provides our tea, our bread is baked by Jordy’s Bakery from Rotterdam and our high-quality coffee is roasted by Giraffe Coffee from Rotterdam.
